Brunello area
The hills of Brunello di Montalcino
Montalcino is a peaceful and charming medieval hilltop town to the south of Siena, well-known for the production of one of the best Italian red wine, the Brunello di Montalcino.
Going along the Cassia, through the Val d’Orcia, you’ll be enchanted by the endless rolling hills, covered by wheat or sunflowers, according on the different seasons, and then, passing through charming hamlets and thick woods, by large vineyards and olive groves… the pride of every farm, from the smallest to the biggest one.
The first “recipe” for making the Brunello has been tested in the late 19th century and then in 1967 was founded The Consorzio del vino Brunello to protect the production and the prestige of this precious and expensive wine. But you need to taste the wine to understand what Brunello means… You’ll visit Montalcino and Buonconvento.
The guide will take you to taste the best wines produced in this region, visiting medium-small wineries and enjoying traditional and genuine food without missing nice stops at the main sights.
